President Donald Trump is heading to the World Economic Forum in Davos with a massive geopolitical agenda: making Greenland a U.S. territory by the end of the year. The President recently took to Truth Social to share a photo of the island labeled “US territory established in 2026,” signaling that what started as a suggestion years ago has now become a hard deadline.
A Clash with Europe Over Arctic Security
The push comes at a tense moment. Speaking to reporters ahead of the summit, Trump took aim at European leaders, accusing them of being “asleep at the wheel” regarding security threats from Russia and China. He claimed NATO’s warnings about foreign influence on the autonomous island have been ignored for two decades.
After a call with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, the President made it clear that he views the acquisition not as an option, but as a global necessity.
“As I expressed to everyone, very plainly, Greenland is imperative for National and World Security. There can be no going back — On that, everyone agrees!” he posted.

The Nobel Peace Prize Connection
One of the most surprising twists in this saga involves a letter sent to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store. In it, Trump directly linked his aggressive new stance to being passed over for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. He expressed that after being “snubbed,” he feels a shift in his diplomatic priorities.
“Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace,” the letter stated, noting that his focus has shifted entirely to what benefits the United States.
Questioning “Right of Ownership”
Late Monday night in Florida, Trump went even further, questioning the very foundation of Denmark’s sovereignty over the island. He argued that Denmark simply doesn’t have the military teeth to protect the land from outside powers.
“Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a ‘right of ownership’ anyway? There are no written documents, it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also,” he wrote.
As he prepares to face world leaders in Switzerland, his final word on the matter was a demand for immediate action: “We have to have it. They have to have this done.”
